Meatballs

These Grilled Homemade Italian Meatballs come together in minutes. Incredibly tender, packed full of flavour including parmesan cheese, these meatballs are then grilled to caramelised barbecue-grill perfection!

What You Need

  • 1 pound ground Beef
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 3/4 cup fresh bread crumbs
  • 2 large eggs, beaten
  • 1/3 cup grated Parmesan
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons finely chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Sea salt
  • Freshly ground black pepper
  • Olive oil

My go to fillings for a for a meatball sub  – BBQ sauce, cheddar cheese & grilled onions.

What To Do

  1. In a large bowl, mix the beef, pork, breadcrumbs, eggs, Parmesan, garlic, parsley and red pepper flakes until thoroughly combined. Roll out meat mixture into balls 1 1/2 inches in diameter. Season meatballs all over liberally with salt and pepper.
  2. Preheat the Grill to High for 10 minutes with the lid closed.
  3. Brush meatballs with olive oil and place on grill and cook until well browned all over and cooked through, about 8 minutes total, 2 minutes per side.
  4. Pour barbecue sauce into a grill-safe dish or foil pan. Add browned meatballs and gently turn to coat. Lower the flame, close the grill lid, and continue cooking until the sauce is hot.
  5. Cut sandwich rolls in half lengthwise and grill, cut side down, over a low flame, until lightly toasted. Layer rolls with barbecue sauce, grilled onions, meatballs, and sliced cheddar cheese. Turn off the heat and return the assembled subs to the grill, lid closed, until the cheese is melted.

This really easy beef and pork Grilled meatball recipe is a simple, wholesome dinner for the whole family. And for convenience sake the meatball mixture can be made and refrigerated up to 24 hours in advance before cooking.

Like any good burger, meatball subs can be personalised to each persons taste which means they will always go down a treat. And remember, these aren’t dainty sandwiches by any means so make sure there are plenty of napkins floating about!
