Nourishing and delicious, with a bit of a kick, these Grilled Bean Burgers are so easy to pull together and fire up on the grill. If you want to satisfy meat lovers with vegan-friendly burgers – this recipe is for you!
What You Need
- 3 cups black beans
- 1/2 small red onion, diced
- 1/2 red or yellow pepper, diced
- 4 cloves garlic
- 1 1/2 eggs
- 1 Tbsp chili powder
- 1 Tbsp smoked paprika
- 1 Tbsp cumin
- 1 cup bread crumb
What To Do
- In a food processor, add red onion, pepper, and garlic and pulse several times.
- In a bowl, mash the black beans, and then add in the vegetable mixture and mix with hands until well-combined.
- Add cumin, chili powder, eggs, paprika and bread crumbs and mix until mixture could form a patty. (You may need to add a little extra breadcrumbs).
- Form the patties and place on aluminium foil. Or to make life a lot easier, simply use the Sahara Burger Press.
- Pre heat your grill on high for 5-10 minutes. Lightly oil the burgers.
- Turn the heat to medium and grill about 8-10 minutes on each side.

I like to make life easy for you guys so these can be made ahead of time and frozen for a simple (but tasty) mid week dinner on your Sahara BBQ. They don’t necessarily need to be eaten in between two buns. These are delicious in a wrap with fresh lettuce and some slaw…
If you decide to freeze them, then simply stack patties on top of each other (with a piece of parchment paper between each patty) and place in a freezer proof container. When ready to serve, cook until browned and warmed through, around 6-8 minutes per side. No need to thaw out the patties.
