Here at Sahara, we know how much you all love a burger, especially one that’s Juicy all the way through and grilled on your Gas BBQ.
It doesn’t get much better than making your own homemade hamburgers from scratch rather than buying pre-packaged hamburgers from the store. Especially if it’s something you can do together with the kids on the BBQ. I definitely think cooking with your kids will always encourage them to try out new foods and cooking from scratch introduces a healthier attitude towards food also, let’s not forget the pride they will have when everyone is enjoying the food they have prepared.
Ingredients
- 500g lean minced beef
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire Sauce
- 1 clove garlic, crushed
- 1 tbsp tomato purée
- 2 tbsp parsley, chopped
- 1 good pinch of smoked paprika
- Freshly ground black pepper
- A little salt
Method
Place the mince, chopped onion, garlic, tomato purée, Worcestershire Sauce, paprika and parsley into a bowl.
*Note* Do NOT add any salt at this point.
Preheat your grill to medium high. Allow to heat for at least 5-10 minutes before cooking the burgers.
While your grill is preheating, divide the meat mixture into 4 equal portions and form into round patties.
Gently press a slight indent into the middle of each burger as this will help to stop your burgers from shrinking
When you are just about to grill, generously sprinkle both sides of the meat patties with salt and pepper.
Then carefully place on the hot grill and cook over medium high with the lid closed for 5 minutes.
Flip the burgers to the other side and continue to grill with the lid closed for an additional 5 minutes for medium/medium rare.
Part of the reason that burgers are so awesome is how flexible they are to individual tastes and people love to make their burgers unique. Here is a very simple recipe for tasty, juicy burgers for everyone in the family to enjoy together. What makes the burgers tender is because we don’t add the salt at the beginning of the burger preparation, but towards the end. This is because salt removes water from and dissolves some of the meat proteins, causing them to bind the insoluble proteins together which is not great for a tender burger. So, add the salt to your burgers just before they hit your grill.
You will thank me for that the next time you grill some burgers on your Sahara BBQ!
